Bookclub #3: The Night of the Solstice by LJ Smith

Like many of you, I’m an admitted LJ Smith fan. My formative years were spent reading ragged and dog-eared copies of the books, The Secret Circle, Vampire Diaries, and The Forbidden Game. I always assumed I was from some long lost branch of some long lost witch family straight out of the Night World. BTW I’m not.

Well, recently it was discovered that I never read LJ Smith’s first two books, Night of the Solstice and Sword of Valor. The ever quick witted Rebecca from Crunchings and Munchings review blog was fast to tweet, “@iloveyafiction never read them either! I’m totes thinking 1 of these for book club. You in?” Yes, friends, I am so in.

I Love YA Fiction Bookclub: Book #1

Hey, You! It’s time for book club! Now, if you’re like me you probably used to use the words book and club as code for “going to get a drink with my girlfriends”. Well, this has got to stop! I Love YA Fiction is going to have a real monthly book club where we suggest a book on our queue and we all read it. Then, a reader gets to review it! (I mean, only if someone volunteers otherwise I’ll do it; no biggie) And no booze allowed…unless, of course, it’s god awful and you, like Ellen, must resort to counting the # of glasses of wine necessary to finish.

We’re so lucky! I just found this book (see below) for FREE on Amazon and it will be our guinea pig cause seriously, if no one reads with me then there’s really no point and I might as well just review per usual.

The Rules:

We suggest a book (or you suggest it to me and I use that suggestion). You tell me in the comments if you’re reading it too. Then, we all have 3 weeks to read with a review and chat about it coming out the same day.

The Book:

The Raven by Suzy Turner

“After the inexplicable disappearance of Lilly Taylor’s parents, she has no choice but to move to Canada where she unravels some frightening yet intriguing family secrets…

Her whole life had been based on a lie. Lilly had grown up in a loveless home with a father who she had barely ever seen and a mother who was… well, not very motherly.

After they mysteriously disappear without a trace, Lilly is sent to Canada where she finds a whole new way of life. A life filled with love and people who care for her. But that’s not all she discovers, Lilly also finds out that she

isn’t who, or what, she thinks she is. “

No clue why girlfriend has to move to Canada to find happiness but…it’s free! It has pretty good reviews! I’m a sucker for a great cover!

The Time Frame to Read:
