What to Expect: A daring story about a man and a woman who defeat the forces of evil. (With lots of steamy scenes in between)
Plot: I’m only giving you book 1 so it doesn’t spoil anything!
INFAMOUS BACHELOR and SELF-MADE BILLIONAIRE ROEN DORAN IS A BASTARD. Yes, he knows it. And no, he doesn’t care. He’s got money and power, and he depends on no one. But when his estranged father dies, willing him a secret island, Roen will come face to face with an even bigger secret: its occupants. And these savage, sea-obsessed warriors are quick to make their position clear: Leave now or die.
There’s only one problem. Nobody tells Roen what to do. Ever. Oh, and one other thing. He’s just met the island’s other new “guest” and something about her brings out his possessive side.
SOLE SHIPWRECK SURVIVOR LIV STRATTON had been adrift at sea for ten grueling days when salvation miraculously appeared: an uncharted island. Only, the deceivingly beautiful men who live there aren’t interested in saving her. No, not at all. Because they somehow believe she is their property, a gift from the ocean to do with as they please. This is not good.
Her only hope? Billionaire Roen Doran, of all people. A man who’s said to care for nothing and no one. But if he’s so heartless, then why is he about to risk everything to help her?
First off, this is three books in one for an amazing price! Second, I love Mimi Jean Pamifloff’s romance. This story was no different than her other books, except it had a fantastic element to it. Without giving much away, these books were fast paced, steamy, and in a weird way, relatable. I’m not surrounded by mermen in my spare time or trapped on a mysterious island. But I found the struggles between duty and desire really compelling. Also Pamifloff’s idea came off original to me. People have done mermaid/siren stories, yet I’ve never read one based on mermen. Her take on these mythical creatures was a nice read. I loved following Liv on her journey for love and self sacrifice. I think if you’re looking for a fun read you should pick this up.
What you might not like/doesn’t work for you: I wasn’t a fan of how off of the island, back in the real world, the characters and story fell a bit flat. I’d love to see that more developed and realistic. But the reader doesn’t spend too much time there, so it can easily be overlooked. Also I love villains that feel like human beings. Shane just felt completely evil. I would have loved to see another side of him.
What you will love: Where do I start? The characters, romance, mermen, action, fighting. I think Pamifloff is amazing at writing banter. If you have a chance to check out her other books you will see what I mean. She’s got a great eye for pacing when it comes to romance and she kept me hooked and waiting patiently in this book.
