Without getting too schmaltzy (being the cynical and anti-schmaltz Brit that I am) I have THE best hobby. I get to hang out on social media talking about books, connecting with really talented authors and again chatting about books! Last year I read Love in the Time of the Dead by Tera Shanley and even though it was about zombies (my bête noir) I was hooked! Ever since, I’ve been stalking her following her career and now I’m really happy to be able to share book one in her new series Silver Wolf Clan. It’s out today.

Plot: When Greyson Crawford woke to the sound of screaming, nothing could prepare him for what followed. In a forest clearing nearby, a woman is standing trying to fight off a wild animal. He intervenes and is hurt badly. When he wakes, he has no recollection of the previous night’s events. Only the image of the woman he saved and her little girl. Her name was Morgan. He only has that to go on, but he has to find her to make sure that she’s OK.

Morgan Carter has new responsibilities in her life. After that night in the forest, where her sister Marianna was killed, Morgan is now the sole carer for her niece Lana. She’s determined never to be vulnerable again and practises martial arts every week.

Six months later and Greyson has managed to track down Morgan – he lurks in the shadows not wanting her to be afraid of who is is now. He’s different. Wild and quick-tempered, battling with the monster within, he shouldn’t be around people. But he can’t stay away from Morgan. His Morgan.

Review: This was a relatively short read as it’s book one in a four-book series. So, just as I was getting the lay of the land and a feel for the characters, the story was ending. I don’t do well with waiting – so it was bitter-sweet coming to the end of Silver Wolf Clan as I had a ton of questions and wanted to dive straight into book two. Patience Grasshopper. I’m sure all will be revealed in due course.

I really like Tera’s style of writing. It’s simple, she doesn’t waste words. She has a knack for paring down a story to its bare bones. That’s not a criticism – what you’re left with is pure story and action and human emotion. I really found Greyson and Morgan likeable and soon to be loveable characters. Lana was the right balance of cute and realistic. I hate books where the kids are so sweet they give you toothache. Bleurgh!

I’m sure the action is going to ramp up in the following books and I really look forward to the ride. I’m giving Silver Wolf Clan 9/10.

Review based on the following:

How much I liked the heroine: 9 Morgan is straightforward, she’s plucky and she doesn’t play games. She wants Greyson and he wants her. No game-playing, just good old-fashioned honesty.

How much I liked the love interest: 9 OK, maybe it’s the cavewoman in me, but I really liked Greyson. I really really liked him. He’s a dominant wolf, meaning that he growls a lot and is clearly very protective of Morgan and Lana. Yet it didn’t get too out of hand. But I suppose it’s early days. I’ve read a lot of stories with alpha males, but at least in this instance, it’s part of his nature!

How much I liked the writing style/editing etc:– 9 As I stated before, I really enjoy Tera’s writing – it’s funny, it’s simple and it gets right down to the story. No skipping for me. On every page something happens and drives the story on.

How much did I want to keep reading: 10 I finished the story in one sitting and immediately wanted more. But I  have to wait. Until February. Did I mention I hate to wait? Oh well, it’ll be character-building I’m sure.

Final score: 9/10 – short and sweet, left me wanting more.
