Birthday Giveaway #4: Cathy Zaragoza

Ever meet one of those sweet, self-effacing authors who has a razor sharp wit and the ability to be gracious while also snarky…oh, and you know, has already written 3 books at the ripe old age of 22?! Gotta admit: when I first met Cathy Zaragoza, she intimidated the hell outta me! Girlfriend wrote her first book on a lark and doesn’t even care about promoting it. She just writes to write and is very good at what she does. She now has three published works under her belt and her first book, The Complex, earned high praise from yours truly. I love the fact that there’s practically NO romance in her books. She tells a story and that’s it. It’s not a romance, it’s not a thriller, it’s not some post-apocalyptic knock off that only has one way of presenting something. Her books remind me of old school YA: there’s a little bit of something for everyone and you are gonna love it no

Birthday Giveaway #3: Anne Eliot

Birthday Giveaway #3: Anne Eliot

I’m not gonna lie: judging her based solely on her uber-fabulous books, Almost and Unmaking Hunter Kennedy, I assumed Anne Eliot was a pretty dark person. I mean, her books touch on all sorts of heavy and thought-provoking subjects – rape, suicide, teen drinking and drugs – so when I contacted her late last year, I expected to deal with a completely different type of person than what I got. Guys let me tell you, Anne Eliot is a nut! But in the coolest, most fun way imaginable. She’s like crossing a hyper-active teen with the mom next door with this hilariously creative artist lady you found down at the coffee shop selling hemp jewelry. I can’t get enough of her! And if you’ve read her books, you’ll agree that she is one talented writer. That kiss scene in Unmaking Hunter Kennedy??? Swoo-oon!

Birthday Giveaway #2: EM Tippetts

Birthday Giveaway #2: EM Tippetts

One of our more infamous reviews contains this line, “Okay I have no clue why I liked this but I did.” That would be Ellen describing her reading experience with EM Tippetts’ Someone Else’s Fairytale. That was enough to convince me to read it (what? I’m easy!) But after getting a hold of the book in question, I had to tell Ellen to check herself because the book was  better than I could have hoped. As you all know, I’m a sucker for movie star-normal girl books. I just can’t help myself! It’s a sickness really. EM Tippetts’ Someone Else’s Fairytale is about a movie star and a college girl who just wants a normal life. The girl doesn’t want to fall for the rich, handsome movie star who zeroes in on her. And she definitely does not want all that comes with fame and fortune even though people left and right are calling her crazy for not jumping on his bandwagon. EM Tippetts recently wrote a sequel to SEF, Nobody’s Damsel, which explores a long-term relationship between the movie star and normal girl. That leads me to…

Birthday Giveaway #1: Jillian Dodd

Birthday Giveaway #1: Jillian Dodd

I love Jillian Dodd. No REALLY. I love her in such a big way. This lady is not only the fantastic author who gave us That Boy, That Wedding, Stalk Me, Kiss Me, and the soon to be released, Date Me, but she’s also an extremely generous and sweet person who has stood by this blog since the beginning! I can’t praise her highly enough.  If you ever wondered, “Huh, should I pick up this That Boy book?” The answer will always be, “Yes,” my friends.

Happy Birthday to…me? Oh yeah! It’s about to get real!

On your birthday, does the internal monologue run a little something like this?

“I am fierce! FIERCE! You bought that cake for me, right?! Of course you did! It’s my day. I can eat the whole thing if I want to. Yum-my! Costco makes a mean sheet cake and it is all mine…no, you can’t have any. Get your grubby stubs off my cake! Whew, close one. That kid almost got a bite of my cake but I showed her…ooh presents! For me??? Aw, man, that kid is back and eyeing my cake. Hands off!”

Thanks, Theresa, for the cake! Drool!

Three Things that Kick Butt: An Author Birthday Contest, One HUGE Contest, and the Comment Section

Hey guys! I’m super elated today! It could be the 4 cups of coffee I’ve had since waking up 2 hours ago…but I think it’s more because things are finally starting to get back to normal around here in Hoboken. Gone are the armored National Guard trucks patrolling the streets and here to stay is ELECTRICITY! I can sleep without needing 6 layers and 4 quilts! I don’t have to wear a headlamp to make my canned soup! Amazing stuff.

Now I have three very important things that I want to tell you about:

Happy Birthday Ellen Book Giveaway!

Hey guys! Know what that gaudy cake right there means? You guessed it! It’s Ellen’s birthday! Now, we take birthdays very seriously around I Love YA Fiction. Every year, Ellen and her mom call me and sing (only very slightly out of key) the birthday song for me no matter where they are.  My absolutely favorite location for them to call from? Hungover in a cab cruising through Manhattan the day after Easter. I can’t make this stuff up, people.
