What to Expect: This is a sweet friends-to-lovers book featuring honest-to-goodness adults, witty banter, and some really good groveling.
Karen Stivali is a prolific writer, compulsive baker and chocoholic with a penchant for books, movies, and fictional British men. She’s also the multiple award-winning author of contemporary and erotic romances. She writes novels about love…like real life, only hotter.

Santino Hassell was raised by a conservative family, but he was anything but traditional. He grew up to be a smart-mouthed, school cutting grunge kid, then a transient twenty-something, and eventually transformed into an unlikely romance author.
Santino writes queer romance that is heavily influenced by the gritty, urban landscape of New York City, his belief that human relationships are complex and flawed, and his own life experiences.

What to Expect: An unexpected heroine makes an extraordinary leap of faith and ends up on her arse!
Plot: Tess Brookes has always been a Girl with a Plan. But when the Plan goes belly up, she’s forced to reconsider.
After accidentally answering her flatmate Vanessa’s phone, she decides that since being Tess isn’t going so well, she might try being Vanessa. With nothing left to lose, she accepts Vanessa’s photography assignment to Hawaii – she used to be an amateur snapper, how hard can it be? Right?
But Tess is soon in big trouble. And the gorgeous journalist on the shoot with her, who is making it very clear he’d like to get into her pants, is an egotistical monster. Far from home and in someone else’s shoes, Tess must decide whether to fight on through, or ‘fess up and run…
Review: First, I downloaded this book when I was in desperate need of some chick lit a few months ago and I forgot I had it. I read the prologue and I distracted myself with other novels I was reading. Why did I do this? Cause I’m a total idiot! Once I picked it back up I devoured it. I didn’t want to put it down. I read it everywhere I went. It was everything chick lit should be: somewhat predictable with a dose of humor and tastefully done romantic scenes. The characters at first felt familiar and Kelk did a great job at bringing them off of the page and making them three-dimensional. I rooted for Tess as she made mistakes and found herself. I wanted her to find love and actually felt torn between two love interests at one point. Some things I could definitely see coming since the beginning but Kelk kept it interesting and zany. I related to Tess a lot. I felt like she wasn’t a perfect heroine that was so beautiful your eyes fall out of your head. She had her issues that weren’t clichéd.
What you might not like/doesn’t work for you: I don’t like books where I can predict the ending. I won’t spoil anything but I knew from the beginning who a certain character would end up being. Sometimes the connections between Tess and said character above felt forced and a little too romantic. But hey, when you pick up a romance book you have to let your guard down about these kinds of things and just go with it.
What you will love: Lindsey Kelk is amazing at building romantic relationships. Her timing was really great and I loved her dialogue. I actually caught myself smirking while reading this in public. I truly loved all of her characters and their quirks. Even the ones that aren’t so likable she does a great job at making them realistic.
