What Erin is Reading
When she was bad, she was better.
Elizabeth Harding, the perfect, polished daughter of politicians, plays by all the rules. Or so it seems. Tired of a lifetime of denying her passionate nature, she’s created an alter ego. As Tess, Elizabeth is able to safely and secretly indulge all of her wild fantasies—even if that fantasy is financing a private club of pleasure.
Driven and ambitious, Luca Santos has clawed his way from rags to riches. His boss’s daughter has tempted him for what seems like forever, but he’s known that the pampered princess probably wouldn’t be down with his dirty ways. Elizabeth is sweet, innocent, demure…so what’s she doing sneaking around a place that revels in sexual abandon?
One night. So many ways to ruin a person.
I thought this book was going to be about the sexual shenanigans that happen at a sex club, but it’s more focused on Elizabeth and Luca’s rekindled relationship. This isn’t a complaint; sex club shenanigans can get a little repetitive and this story was anything but. We get to know Elizabeth and Luca intimately, both apart and together. They have incendiary chemistry, but the reasons Elizabeth has for staying away are very real.
Rai has a sharp, witty sense of humor that laces through her writing, and I laughed out loud several times through the book — something rare in an erotic novella. This is a very well-constructed story. The secret to writing a good novella is understanding which details can be skimped on and which ones should be fleshed out, and Rai handles this masterfully. I can’t believe the level of depth and feeling she’s packed into a novella-length story that mostly consists of lots of kinky banging. It’s meaningful kinky banging, with a lot of character development and enough emotional impact to leave me yelling “Noooooooo” when the book ended. Highly recommend, and I’m eagerly waiting for the next one.
When Hailey crashes a Half-Life after party, she expects to find the bastard who knocked up her little sister. Instead she meets the sexy front-man who agrees to give her access to his crew if she gives him access to her body. All Lock demands in return is three days of complete control over the Sunday School teacher. With a contract, because he’s been burned before. One misstep could send the band—and his tenuous sobriety—up in flames. Hailey and Lock push each other’s limits… Against the penthouse window. Backstage. In the limo and on the elevator. But as the contract counts down, neither are ready for the party to end.
Okay, so, this one was recommended by El Blackwell over at Duke, Duke Goose for the subject of our next podcast. (Romancing the Tomes – check it out here!) Despite her recommending it as “lots of going down on ladies” and “the kind of good threesome where the dudes want to touch dicks as much as they want to touch the woman,” it somehow didn’t occur to me that this was an erotic romance. I caught on real fast.
This book was such a glittering rainbow of bisexual joy. There is no “am I gay” angst, just glorious bisexual threesomes. This contains possibly the best and hottest threesome I’ve ever read. So much simmering sexual tension and anger and everyone going downtown like there was a fire sale in the pubic area. And bisexuals. Did I mention the bisexuals? I love it.
Interestingly, while the A plot with the Sunday School teacher and the rock star is more of your typical “I caught feelings while we were boning” erotic romance, but the B plot gives us more of a traditional secret baby romance, which is one of my very favorite things. I was rooting so hard for the B plot couple, and I loved the resolution to that story. I really liked how the authors turned the good girl/bad girl tropes upside down and how much love and caring was between the sisters.
This was a great one. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.
A woman’s pleasure is a dangerous thing. A primal appetite that, once awakened, can never be sated. A secret that gives power to those who know it. A magic that, once unleashed, can never be contained. Some say the clitoris is the devil’s doorbell, set to summon him forth at the merest touch… It’s time to ring the bell. Here are seven tales of sexual empowerment and erotic defiance, featuring the hottest storytellers of erotic fiction.
This book is about women finding pleasure, unashamedly. This collection of short stories is one long multiple orgasm of explosive hotness. Look at that author lineup! I couldn’t find a bad story in the bunch, but Megan Mulry’s f/f story stood out to me as being the most blisteringly erotic. Molly O’Keefe’s also features a hot bearded male virgin, which is so completely my catnip, it might as well have been written for me.
Don’t read this book near your kids, your parents, or your boss.
You might not want to read it on the treadmill. Possibly hazardous.
Actually, probably best to avoid reading it on public transportation as well.
Really, it should come with all kinds of warning labels, because it’s that hot, that explosive, and that wonderfully, unapologetically feminist. The woman’s pleasure is first and foremost in every story, with the men present, but not centered. This is so wonderful to see, particularly in erotica. Highly recommend.
